Los Angeles Dodgers superstar to skip White House visit amid backlash over Donald Trump’s ICE in city

A LOS Angeles Dodgers superstar is expected to skip the teams visit to the White House later this month.

The Dodgers overcame the Toronto Blue Jays to clinch back-to-back World Series titles in November.

But they are yet to make the cross-country trip to see President Trump, as is customary for all championship-winning teams in the US.

The team has confirmed that they have received the invitation and will head to Washington, DC, on July 23, between MLB games.

However, their scheduled visit to the White House has come with backlash following last summers controversial ICE raids in Los Angeles.

It is now being reported that Mookie Betts is expected to skip the visit.

He told The California Post, Im not trying to make this a whole big deal.

We just had a baby.

You dont get many days off.

Theyre coming [on the road trip].

And just want to hang out with the fam.

Thats really kind of it.

But people are gonna make it a whole bunch of other stuff.

Betts previously declined a White House invitation while with the Boston Red Sox in 2019.

He later admitted he regretted that decision because it shifted attention away from his teammates.

Since then, he has attended both of the Dodgers recent trips in 2021 with Joe Biden and then last year with Trump.

Betts was traded to Los Angeles ahead of the 2020 season and has now won three World Series titles on the West Coast.

He has earned four All-Star selections during his six seasons with the Dodgers.
