LeBron James is gearing up for what could be the final chapter of his storied NBA career. The 41-year-old made waves in free agency by leaving the Los Angeles Lakers and signing a two-year, $8 million contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, a team with lofty expectations and a talent-rich roster.
Excitement around James and the Sixers intensified when a clip from a recent public scrimmage surfaced, showcasing the four-time champion's skills. In the footage, the league's all-time leading scorer received the ball on the wing, created separation, and drained a step-back three-pointer.
The play quickly went viral, drawing reactions from fans and analysts. One fan account posted, "Bron looks so sharp, son. They not ready." Another popular account exclaimed, "IM SHAKINGGG." Sports data account Statyx added, "That was shifty, even for Bron, lol."
James' ability to create space at this stage of his career impressed many. One fan commented, "OMG, year 24 and creating space like that." Another wrote, "Man, it's going to be a GREAT season."
Last season with the Lakers, James adapted to a complementary role behind Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves, yet still averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game. However, his perimeter shooting has been inconsistent: after hitting 37.6% from three in 2024-25, his efficiency dropped to 31.7% last season.
Philadelphia arguably had the best offseason, acquiring All-NBA wing Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics. The Sixers now boast a formidable core of James, Brown, Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, and rising guard VJ Edgecombe, who is projected to become a franchise cornerstone.
Despite the talent, some NBA voices question the roster fit. Former NBA champion Jeff Teague suggested that the Sixers' isolation-heavy players could hinder their championship aspirations. Nonetheless, James' veteran leadership and championship pedigree are expected to elevate the locker room and provide the guidance the team needs.
Key Analysis
The addition of James brings both star power and experience to a Philadelphia squad that has underachieved in recent playoffs. While his shooting consistency may be a concern, his playmaking and leadership could be the missing pieces for a deep postseason run. The Sixers' success will depend on how well the coaching staff integrates James with Brown, Maxey, and Embiid, balancing isolation play with ball movement.
