Leah Rymer Reaches 1,000 Career Digs as Salem Volleyball Rolls

Salem College junior Leah Rymer, a South Rowan product, recently eclipsed 1,000 digs for her career. The 5-foot-9 setter had already surpassed 2,000 assists as a sophomore, but her assist numbers have dipped this season due to Salem employing a two-setter system.

Under the guidance of her father, head coach Barry Rymer, Salem holds a 22-6 record. Leah paces the squad with 528 assists and ranks among team leaders in both digs (326) and kills (262).

Key Analysis

Rymer's dual-threat capability as a setter and attacker has been crucial for Salem's success. Her reduced assist total reflects the strategic shift to a two-setter offense, yet she remains a focal point. The father-daughter coaching dynamic adds a unique layer to the team's chemistry.

Catawba senior libero Riley Hill (East Rowan) has recorded 416 digs this season. She has earned South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors six times in her career, including twice this year.

Erskine concluded its season with a 6-23 record. Freshman Campbell Withers (South Rowan) contributed 177 digs for the Flying Fleet.

Davidson-Davie Community College's Cameron Ostle (East Rowan) ranks third in her conference with 381 kills.

Pfeiffer freshman Leigan Lusk (East Rowan) leads the Falcons (4-20) with 57 blocks, including six in a recent match against Meredith. Lusk also has 101 kills. Anasty Faavesi (East Rowan) has 169 kills for Pfeiffer, reaching double figures eight times. Kady Collins (East Rowan) has added 18 kills, while Alana Herring (Carson) has 33 digs.

Laney Beaver (South Rowan) has posted 34 kills, 72 assists, and 48 digs for Averett (5-16).

College Football

Amari McArthur (North Rowan, Catawba) had two catches for 17 yards in a 24-17 win over Tennessee Tech on Saturday. He has had a relatively quiet season with nine catches for 93 yards.

Hank Webb (Salisbury) converted all nine PAT attempts in Hampden-Sydney's 73-21 rout of Averett on Saturday. Webb also kicked off 11 times.

Former Salisbury running back Jamal Rule carried 13 times for 72 yards for Nebraska in a 17-10 loss to Washington on Saturday.
