Lamar Cardinals Soar Past Northwestern State, 42-14, as Demons' Skid Hits 17

In a dominant performance under the lights in Beaumont, Texas, the Lamar Cardinals cruised to a 42-14 victory over the Northwestern State Demons on Saturday night. Quarterback Aidan McCown accounted for three total touchdowns—two through the air and one on the ground—as Lamar handed Northwestern State its 17th consecutive loss, the longest active skid in Division I football.

The Demons, members of the Football Championship Subdivision, have not tasted victory since a 20-10 win over Alcorn State in the 2025 season opener, which had snapped a 20-game losing streak. Northwestern State now sits at 0-6 overall and 0-3 in Southland Conference action.

McCown got the scoring started with a short pass to LaDamion McDowell, who turned it into a 37-yard touchdown and gave the Cardinals a lead they would never relinquish with 4:41 remaining in the first quarter. The Demons briefly answered when Zach Wilcke connected with Brendan Webb on a 7-yard scoring strike, but Lamar's offense proved too potent.

Jojo Uga opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game with a 45-yard touchdown run. Parker Jenkins later added a 39-yard rushing score, and Cam Patterson's 8-yard run pushed the lead to 42-7 just over three minutes into the second half. Zay Davis capped the scoring with a 24-yard touchdown run with 14:11 left in the game, taking a pitch to the right before cutting back to the middle and racing untouched to the end zone.

Northwestern State struggled mightily on third down, failing to convert any of its 10 attempts in the first half and finishing just 2 of 17 for the game. Lamar, ranked No. 14 in the Stats Perform poll, has now won three straight since a 38-7 loss at Louisiana-Lafayette on Sept. 5.

Key Analysis

The Cardinals' balanced attack and stifling defense overwhelmed the Demons, who remain in the throes of a historic losing streak. Lamar's ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities and control the clock proved decisive, while Northwestern State's inability to sustain drives doomed any chance of an upset. With the win, Lamar stays unbeaten in conference play and continues to build momentum.

Looking ahead, Northwestern State will host McNeese State on Oct. 17, while Lamar welcomes Incarnate Word next Saturday.
