Kraken's Penalty Kill Torched Again in 6-2 Loss to Flames

Matt Coronato notched a career-best four points, scoring once and adding three assists, as the Calgary Flames defeated the Seattle Kraken 6-2 on Friday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Freddy Gaudreau netted his team-leading seventh goal and Mackie Samoskevich also scored for Seattle, but the Kraken never held a lead. Philipp Grubauer was pulled after surrendering four goals on 14 shots, and Joey Daccord made 11 saves in relief.

Seattle's penalty kill woes continued, as Calgary converted both of its power-play chances. Over the last six games, the Kraken have allowed 10 goals on 17 penalty kills.

Joel Farabee contributed a goal and two assists for Calgary, which won its fifth straight home game. Morgan Frost and Matvei Gridin each had a goal and an assist, while Aydar Suniev and Ryan Strome also scored. Dustin Wolf, making his first start since Oct. 15, stopped 20 shots to earn the win and improve to 2-4-0.

Mikael Backlund's assist on Farabee's goal gave him 610 career points, moving him past Johnny Gaudreau into sole possession of fifth place on Calgary's all-time scoring list. He now trails Joe Nieuwendyk by six points for fourth place.

The Flames, who never trailed, finished 2-for-2 on the power play and are now 9-for-20 with the man advantage over their last seven games. Calgary was coming off a 4-0 loss at Edmonton on Wednesday that snapped a four-game winning streak.

Key Analysis

Seattle's penalty kill has become a glaring weakness, and the Flames capitalized on both opportunities. The Kraken, who had beaten Calgary twice by a combined 12-2 score in the opening week, couldn't replicate that success. Calgary's power play has been red-hot, and Backlund's milestone adds another highlight to the win. The Flames will look to keep rolling on the road against Colorado on Saturday.
