The New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers took vastly different paths through the offseason, but both enter the 2026-27 campaign with high expectations as they meet in Tuesday night's season opener at Madison Square Garden.
New York will commemorate its recent title by unveiling a championship banner before the game, marking the franchise's first championship since Jalen Brunson, OG Anunoby, and Karl-Anthony Towns led the team to glory in June. The organization has enjoyed a summer of celebration, including a victory parade and Brunson's hosting stint on "Saturday Night Live," but now the focus shifts to defending the crown.
Philadelphia, on the other hand, will showcase a dramatically reshaped starting lineup following one of the most eventful offseasons in league history. The 76ers now feature a star-studded core of Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, V.J. Edgecombe, Jaylen Brown, and LeBron James, a group assembled with the goal of making a deep playoff run.

Tuesday's matchup will air nationally on NBC and can be streamed live via DIRECTV, which offers a free trial for new subscribers. Additional streaming options include Fubo, also with a free trial, and Peacock.
