Kings-Nets Rookies Set for Must-Watch Summer Showdown

The Sacramento Kings and the Brooklyn Nets are entering the California Classic on Saturday with their draft picks on the line.

The showdown is set to deliver one of the most intriguing rookie matchups of the summer when Darius Acuff Jr.

and Mikel Brown Jr.

finally meet again on an NBA floor.

Just days after both of their names were announced in the 2026 NBA Draft, the Kings and Nets rookies are preparing for another chapter in a rivalry that has quietly followed them since high school.

Brown was selected sixth overall by Brooklyn after an impressive freshman season at Louisville.

He recently signed a multi-year rookie contract with the Nets.

Similarly, Sacramento grabbed Acuff with the seventh pick following his dominant year at Arkansas.

Now, both guards are expected to headline Saturdays Summer League opener at Golden 1 Center.

For Acuff, the opportunity to debut in front of Kings fans only adds to the excitement.

I cant wait to see how its going to look, he said via The Sacramento Bee.

I think its going to be a great game.

I think the fans are going to show up for sure.

Both Rookies Have a Rivalry Entering the NBA For those not following along with college basketball, the matchup already carries plenty of history.

Last season, Acuff helped Arkansas defeat Browns Louisville squad in a nationally ranked showdown, finishing with 17 points and 10 assists in the win.

Brown answered with 22 points of his own, continuing the competitive back-and-forth that has defined their meetings.

They also faced each other during the 2025 McDonalds All-American Game, where Browns West squad defeated Acuffs East team.

Both guards entered the draft as two of the best point guard prospects in the class, naturally fueling comparisons between them.

Brown recently acknowledged that the rivalry has only grown stronger as they enter the NBA together.

Basketball nowadays, that rivalry brings along a lot of fans, Brown said last month.

We know were going to see each other for the rest of our lives, so buckle up.

When asked about his thoughts on having a natural rivalry w/ Darius Acuff, Mikel Brown Jr.
