LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Kentucky announced Wednesday that Pete Nochta has been promoted to general manager of the Wildcats' football team, filling the vacancy created by Pat Biondo's sudden exit. Biondo had been hired in December alongside new head coach Will Stein but departed after only a few months on the job.
Nochta originally joined the program as assistant general manager in December, brought in by Stein and athletic director J Batt. His new responsibilities include directing the Wildcats' personnel operations, with a focus on roster management, recruiting, and player evaluation.
“Pete has been a key contributor to the strong start our football program has made,” said Batt, who also serves as CEO of Champions Blue. “He has helped build a strong foundation in recruiting, roster management and player evaluation, and we're excited for him to take on this role.”

Nochta brings extensive experience from a decade at Louisville, where he spent the last four years as the Cardinals' director of recruiting. Earlier in his career, he served as a quality control coach and graduate assistant at Purdue (2011-2012) and held similar roles at Western Kentucky in 2013. Stein, who played alongside Nochta at Louisville, expressed confidence in his former teammate's ability to lead. “Pete has outstanding relationships throughout college football, a great eye for talent and a deep understanding of what we're building here,” Stein said. “I'm excited to see him step into this role and continue helping us build a championship-caliber program.”
