In a significant development announced on Tuesday, the University of Kansas men's basketball program has formalized a five-year extension with Players Era, solidifying their ongoing involvement in the annual Players Era Festival held in Las Vegas, Nevada, through the 2030-31 campaign.
Kansas first took part in the event back in November 2025, delivering an impressive 3-0 run with victories over Notre Dame, Syracuse, and Tennessee. Despite the perfect record, the tournament's distinctive scoring system—which factors in both points scored and point differential—resulted in the Jayhawks finishing third, trailing Gonzaga and the eventual national champion, Michigan, who claimed the title.
A major draw of the Players Era Championship, beyond the high-caliber competition, lies in the lucrative Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) payouts distributed to participating teams. Every squad that competes is guaranteed at least $1 million in NIL compensation simply for showing up, with additional performance-based bonuses up for grabs.
For their third-place finish in 2025, the Jayhawks pocketed an extra $300,000 in NIL bonuses. Looking ahead, this year's squad has the chance to secure $1 million in NIL bonuses if they emerge victorious in the 2026 Players Era Championship.

Head coach Bill Self expressed his enthusiasm for the extended partnership, praising Players Era's dedication to elevating college basketball. "The Players Era commitment to college basketball has been very impressive," Self stated. "They have brought in high level teams which creates great matchups during the pre-conference season. The Players Era has also produced great NIL opportunities for our players. Being locked in through the 2030-31 season is a reinforcement of the direction the Players Era is moving. Not only is it great for our players but it allows our fans to plan vacations to come cheer on the Jayhawks."
This year's festival has expanded to 24 teams, split into two separate tournaments—the Players Era Eight and the Players Era Sixteen—spanning two weeks. Kansas will compete in the Players Era Eight, a single-elimination bracket featuring Houston, Florida, Notre Dame, UNLV, West Virginia, Rutgers, and Auburn. The action tips off Nov. 17-19 at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas, with KU opening against UNLV on Nov. 17 at approximately 8:30 p.m. CT. A win would pit them against the winner of West Virginia versus Auburn the next night. All tournament games will be broadcast live on ESPN, and tickets are currently on sale.
