Stankovens day with the Cup has been moved to Sunday, Aug.

Stankoven confirmed the change to Castanet, saying a scheduling conflict arose because Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon needed the Cup that day.

Plans are still being finalized for a public event with Stankoven and the Cup, but the former Kamloops Blazers star has envisioned something taking place at Sandman Centre, Riverside Park or both.

Dusan Magdolen, the citys cultural services and events manager, previously told Castanet the event will resemble what Stankoven has in mind, with details still being worked out.

Stankoven also plans to take Lord Stanleys mug to his former high school, St.

Anns Academy, his gym at the Tournament Capital Centre and possibly Royal Inland Hospital.

He had a dominant playoff performance, recording 15 points, including a team-leading 11 goals, and placing third in voting for the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP.

Stankoven is the first Kamloopsian to bring the Cup home since Mark Recchi won his third championship in his final NHL season in 2011.

Recchi was a member of the Boston Bruins, who defeated the Vancouver Canucks in seven games.

The tradition of giving players a day with the Cup began in 1995, when the New Jersey Devils gave each player, coach and staff member a day to share the Stanley Cup with family, friends and their home community, according to The Hockey News.
