The New York Knicks are confronting an issue that may soon become impossible to overlook. Only six games into their title defense, signs of fatigue are impacting the team's energy and execution on the court.
Josh Hart's recent remarks have intensified questions about whether New York is struggling to locate its rhythm. Following a 98-93 defeat to the Philadelphia 76ers, Hart conceded that the demanding schedule was taking a toll on the squad.
"We all feel the fatigue. We've got to fight through it. Six games in, but we have to find a way to make sure we get our bodies ready to play every day," Hart said, via SNY Knicks.
Hart further clarified that the problem is more physical than mental. He expressed confidence that the players know what is required but are having difficulty executing with consistency.
"Mentally, we're there. We just have to find it physically," he added, per SNY.
Jalen Brunson, however, met his teammate's comments with humor. When asked about Hart feeling tired so early in the season, the Knicks captain joked, "Josh said he feels the fatigue? Well, Josh is old as [expletive]."
New York has endured similar stretches before, when its energy and intensity dipped during challenging periods of the season. Head coach Mike Brown has already addressed the team's sluggish performances, calling for better physicality, pace and transition defense.
Key Analysis
While fatigue is understandable after a championship run, it cannot become an excuse. The Knicks must rediscover their motivation and consistency before these early-season problems escalate into a larger concern.
