Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow made a recent appearance on the Gronk & Jules Podcast, where he engaged in a variety of lighthearted discussions, including which NBA player he would compare himself to. Known for his precision passing on the football field, Burrow selected a player with a similar sharpshooting reputation on the basketball court.
Burrow chose Klay Thompson, the Golden State Warriors guard who has secured multiple NBA championships, as his NBA counterpart. "I was like a poor man's Klay Thompson, like I can really shoot it. I can defend," Burrow told Julian Edelman on the FOX Sports podcast.
As the Bengals prepare for their next AFC matchup against the Miami Dolphins, they find themselves in a crowded field of 2-2 teams and currently occupying the bottom spot in the AFC North. The team likely needs a victory this weekend, as historical trends suggest that a 2-3 start would all but dash their Super Bowl aspirations. According to RotoWire, no team with a 2-3 record in the past decade has gone on to reach the Super Bowl.
"We're not where we want to be yet," Burrow told Edelman when the Bengals were 2-0 at the time. "I'm going to always push us to be perfect, but to be sitting where we are, how the games have played out, we're really happy with it. Obviously, it's a long season. You know, the first two weeks have so many eyes on them, so much pressure on it, just because of how anticipated the entire country is, just go watch football. Those are probably two of the least meaningful games in the season. A lot of teams go 2-0 and don't do anything the rest of the year. I think a team a couple years ago went 2-0 and ended up 3-14. So doesn't really matter what happens the first two weeks. Just what happens the next week."
Burrow has performed well enough to put his team in position to win, but he has not quite met his own MVP-level standards. He will aim to deliver a complete, turnover-free performance this weekend.
