If the New York Jets really want to get creative this offseason, there's reason to believe that they could look to make a trade for a backup quarterback.
However, because the Jets haven't made all of the right decisions at the quarterback position in the past, I understand why some continue to question whether it would be a good idea to bring in another young quarterback who isn't exactly great.
Unfortunately, the Jets have yet to prove that they're an elite team at developing quarterbacks.
That's the unfortunate part of where things currently stand in New York.
Still, that doesn't mean the Jets shouldn't take a chance, which is why some have suggested that trading for Dillon Gabriel would make a lot of sense.
Gabriel, who will have a very tough time starting in the future, could more than likely be a trade candidate.
One Jets reporter went as far as to say that because of that, it could make sense for New York to at least think of making a deal for him.
Dillon Gabriel (Browns): This wouldnt excite anyone, but Gabriel was a third-round pick a year ago whether he should have been is another story.
But the Browns QB room is suddenly busy with Shedeur Sanders presence, Deshaun Watsons return and the addition of rookie Taylen Green.
Gabriel did throw for seven touchdowns and two interceptions in six starts as a rookie, albeit while losing all but one start with a sub-60 completion percentage, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic wrote.
I wouldn't hate the idea of trading for Gabriel, but I also don't think this is a perfect move for the Jets and one that's really going to get them much.
Gabriel is a fine player in the sense that he could be an option for New York, but he's definitely not what the Jets need at the moment.
Unfortunately, unless the Jets could pretty much get him for free, meaning trading him for a late asset in the draft, I'd probably pass.
