The New York Jets have activated wide receiver Tim Patrick from the injured reserve list, the team announced on Saturday, setting the stage for his potential debut in Sunday's matchup against the Cleveland Browns.
Patrick had been on injured reserve since the beginning of the season due to a groin injury, which mandated that he miss at least the first four games in accordance with NFL regulations. His 21-day practice window was opened on Wednesday, and he participated fully in practice throughout the week.
With the Jets aiming to snap a three-game losing streak, the decision to activate Patrick comes at a critical juncture. To accommodate him on the active roster, New York waived wide receiver Jamaal Pritchett and elevated linebacker Jaden Keller from the practice squad.
The 32-year-old Patrick is anticipated to provide a boost to a receiving unit that is currently without Adonai Mitchell, who was ruled out on Friday for the third consecutive game due to a finger injury, and rookie Omar Cooper Jr., who is on injured reserve with an ankle injury.
Patrick, who inked a one-year, $2 million contract with the Jets in May, recorded 15 receptions for 187 yards and three touchdowns in 16 games for the Jacksonville Jaguars last season. He began his NFL career with the Denver Broncos, spending his first four seasons there after signing as an undrafted free agent out of Utah. Notably, current Jets general manager Darren Mougey was part of the Broncos' front office during that period.
In 2024, Patrick played for the Detroit Lions, where current Jets head coach Aaron Glenn served as defensive coordinator. Over his career, Patrick has amassed 191 catches for 2,590 yards and 18 touchdown receptions in 87 games.
Pritchett made his NFL debut two weeks ago in Detroit, returning a kickoff for 27 yards. He was active but did not play last Sunday against the Chicago Bears. The speedy Pritchett originally joined the Jets last offseason as an undrafted free agent out of South Alabama and has spent the majority of the season on the practice squad.
Keller, an undrafted rookie out of Virginia Tech, was elevated from the practice squad last week and contributed with an assisted tackle on special teams in his NFL debut.
