their prized restricted free agent Jason Robertson.
He had filed for arbitration after the two sides were at odds over a long-term extension.
The Stars werent willing to go much above a $12 million AAV, but Robertsona three-time 40-goal scorerwas looking for about $15 million per, from all accounts.
Now the two sides have agreed on a one-year deal at $12 million, and he will become an unrestricted free agent after the 2026-27 season.

The freshly minted 27-year-old racked up 45 goals and 96 points this past season, but with the two sides unable to work out an extension, the Stars attempted to trade him to the Seattle Kraken earlier this summer, in a sign-and-trade.
But Robertson turned down the Krakens eight-year, $120 million ($15 million AAV) offer.
Why did Jason Robertson settle for one year, $12M from Dallas Stars? In the end, the player takes a bit of a haircut for the present time, as his value has skyrocketed past the $12M mark after the events of this offseason thus far.

As special and promising as those two young players are, Robertson is far more accomplished at this point.
But as a full UFA next summer, and a salary cap that will have risen another $9.5 million higher, he hopes hell be able to ask for the moon (i.e.
somewhere north of $18M, likely, if another 40-goal season is to come).
In the meantime, however, outspoken former NHLer Jordan Schmaltz , host of the popular Home by 3 podcast, feels that Robo is taking a big risk.

But hey, in Dallas, a team that is always in win-now mode, theyve addressed the now, and can worry about the future, in the future.
