New York Knicks superstar Jalen Brunson will be wearing a cast on his surgically repaired left wrist for six more weeks before he can ramp up his rehab.
The NBA Finals MVP, in a sit-down with Variety , detailed the discomfort he felt upon realizing in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers that something was wrong with his shooting hand.
"My tendon and my structure of my wrist is fine," Brunson said.
"There was soft tissue that was holding my tendon and it kept flipping and snapping over the bone every time I shot, every time I flicked my wrist.
And so clearly it was causing pain, causing friction.
But I was obviously able to play through it.
I'll be in this for about another 6 weeks and then from that point on it's just my rehab after that, but I should be good, I should be good." There is no suggestion that Brunson will miss any portion of the start of the 2026-27 season, which begins in October.
Despite playing through a significant injury, the Knicks' captain still found a way to will his team to its first NBA title in 53 years.
He led New York to a sweep in that conference final series against the Cavaliers, then extended the teams remarkable 13-game postseason win streak by taking the first two games of the NBA Finals in San Antonio against the Spurs.
He scored a franchise-record 45 points in the championship-clinching Game 5 win, then underwent surgery on July 7.
Its been a rollercoaster, honestly, Brunson told ESPN radio last week.
Once we won and everything, everything was up high...everything after we won was amazing.
And then getting back to real life, it was probably best to get surgery done for my wrist.
That brought me back down.
But I would do it all again.
