Insider Identifies Dodgers as Second-Favorite Destination for Tarik Skubal

Detroit Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal has become the focal point of trade deadline discussions, with less than a week remaining before the cutoff. Rumors have intensified as the Tigers continue to slide in the standings.

On Wednesday, Detroit squandered a seven-run lead while Skubal was on the mound, resulting in a loss that further dimmed their postseason hopes. Each defeat increases the likelihood that the Tigers will trade their ace.

Although Detroit has not yet actively shopped Skubal, dealing him makes strategic sense. He is approaching free agency, the Tigers' playoff chances are uncertain, and the organization is unlikely to afford a long-term contract. Even as a rental, Skubal could command a significant prospect haul.

However, multiple insiders suggest that if the Tigers move him, they will seek a major-league ready pitcher in return to remain competitive this season.

Bowden's Landing Spot Rankings

MLB insider Jim Bowden appeared on "Foul Territory" on Wednesday and ranked the most probable landing spots for Skubal. "I'm being told (the Brewers) are in on Skubal. If he's traded, which I don't know. Scott Harris doesn't know. I don't know if he's going to be traded, but if he is, I will tell you this right now: I think the Brewers are the most likely landing spot. I'll write them one, Dodgers two, (Atlanta) Braves three, (Tampa Bay) Rays four in that order," Bowden stated.

The Brewers are not traditionally aggressive buyers for stars like Skubal, a role more typical of the Dodgers. However, Milwaukee may feel they are one piece away from a championship, especially after being swept by Los Angeles in last year's National League Championship Series. At minimum, the Brewers might want to prevent Skubal from joining the Dodgers. Milwaukee boasts a deep farm system and sufficient big-league depth to offer Detroit a major-league arm if that is the Tigers' preference.
