Hurricanes' Taylor Hall Sidelined Week-to-Week, Seth Jarvis Nears Return

The Carolina Hurricanes have opened the 2026-27 season with a 6-1-1 record, outscoring opponents 31-19 and sitting atop the Eastern Conference. However, the team will face adversity as forward Taylor Hall is week-to-week with an upper-body injury sustained in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Washington Capitals, head coach Rod Brind'Amour confirmed.

Hall, 34, exited the game in the second period and has five points in eight games this season. He was a key contributor in the 2026 postseason, recording 19 points in 19 Stanley Cup Playoff games. "We've got kind of a week-to-week situation happening," Brind'Amour said Friday, per NHL.com. "So ask me again in a week."

The injury is a disappointing setback for Carolina, as Hall, Logan Stankoven, and Jackson Blake form one of the NHL's premier second lines. Hall joins captain Jordan Staal on the shelf; Staal is expected to miss 1-2 months with a calf tear, leaving another significant hole in the forward group.

Key Analysis

In more encouraging news, Seth Jarvis is approaching his season debut after undergoing surgery in June to repair a torn labrum and rotator cuff in his right shoulder. Brind'Amour hopes Jarvis will return during the team's five-game road trip, which begins against the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday afternoon. However, the forward had not yet been medically cleared as of Friday.

"We're doing pretty good right now," Jarvis told reporters. "Hopefully it feels better, get some more rehab in over the trip, more skates and see where it's at. It's tough because we haven't really practiced, so I haven't gotten a ton of team practices in. But with the extra skates, we've done a lot of battle drills, which is nice for me. Just testing it out a little more. Everything feels good. Hopefully I'm playing soon. It's kind of what I'm holding out for."

Jarvis led the Canes with 32 goals last regular season, topping the 30-goal mark for the third consecutive year. He added four goals and 11 points in 19 postseason contests to help Carolina win its first championship since 2006. Now riding a six-game winning streak, the Hurricanes will look to keep the wagon rolling in Manitoba on Saturday, with puck drop against the Jets scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET.
