Hubert Davis Signs Multi-Year Deal with TNT Sports as College Basketball Analyst

TNT Sports revealed on Tuesday that it has inked Hubert Davis to a multi-year agreement, positioning him as a studio and game analyst for its men's college basketball coverage beginning with the 2026-27 season. Davis is set to make his first appearance on Thursday, November 5, when TNT's studio show will anchor a three-game slate featuring Big East and Big 12 matchups on truTV and HBO Max.

The move returns Davis to the national spotlight following his abrupt departure from Chapel Hill in March. His Tar Heels surrendered a 19-point lead against VCU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, ultimately falling 82-78 in overtime—a result that marked the largest comeback in the history of that round and sent North Carolina home in the Round of 64 for the second consecutive year.

The university delayed the season finale of Davis's weekly radio show while administrators weighed his future, and he was dismissed shortly thereafter, concluding a five-year tenure in which he compiled a 125-54 record. Davis had experienced early success in that run, guiding his first team to the 2022 national championship game as an 8-seed and defeating Duke twice along the way, including in Mike Krzyzewski's final game. However, the Tar Heels missed the tournament the following season and never replicated that level of achievement. In a statement after his dismissal, Davis expressed a desire to remain and voiced hope to coach again soon.

In an interview with Sports Business Journal, Davis explained the appeal of his new role: "When you're coaching a team, you're so singularly focused on that team and the program that outside of preparing against your opponent, you just don't really get a chance to see other programs and see what they're doing and dive into their coaches and coaching staff and philosophies."

Selected by the New York Knicks in the first round of the 1992 NBA Draft, Davis went on to play 12 seasons in the NBA. He then spent seven years at ESPN as a college basketball analyst, including time on the network's hoops edition of College GameDay. He left that position in 2012 when Roy Williams brought him back to North Carolina as an assistant, and he succeeded Williams as head coach nine years later.

TNT has not yet announced when Davis will make his first appearance as a game analyst, but on November 5 he will join host Tim Doyle, Dalen Cuff, and Seth Davis for studio coverage that begins at 6 p.m. ET and runs throughout the night's Big East and Big 12 tripleheader. Long Island at Seton Hall tips off the tripleheader at 6:30 p.m. with Spero Dedes, Jim Spanarkel, and Jared Greenberg on the call, followed by South Florida at DePaul at 8:30 p.m. with JB Long, Greg Anthony, and Allie LaForce. The night concludes with Cal Poly at No. 5 Arizona at 10:30 p.m., called by Brandon Gaudin and Ronny Thompson, with Andy Katz reporting.
