2 Darryn Peterson and the Jazz.
Dybantsa and Peterson are far from strangers.
Prior to competing to be drafted first, they were the top pair of prospects in their recruiting class and even faced off at Allen Fieldhouse this past January, as a dominant first half from Peterson helped Kansas defeat BYU and Dybantsa.
Peterson scored 18 points with three made 3-pointers and three steals in just 20 minutes of work, while Dybantsa posted 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting.
Additionally, Peterson got the best of Dybantsa in high school, scoring 58 points for Prolific Prep in February 2025 to secure a narrow two-point victory over Utah Prep, despite Dybantsa pouring in 49 points of his own.
For their lone collegiate campaigns, Dybantsa led the nation in scoring at 25.5 points per game to earn First Team All-American honors, and Peterson scored 20.2 points across 24 games and shot nearly 40% from behind the arc.
While Dybantsa has yet to take the floor this summer for the Wizards, Peterson has been outstanding in his early Jazz tenure.
In two Salt Lake City Summer League contests, Peterson has averaged 26.5 points, 7.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game while shooting 53% from the field.
Given their history and draft status, Dybantsa and Peterson will likely be linked together by NBA fans for years.
Whether fair or not, every accomplishment or shortcoming for each player will be compared to the other, with such discourse and debates having already raged on for months.
Dybantsa will want to make a statement in his debut and quiet the pro-Peterson crowd.
Peterson will want to maintain his recent momentum and outplay the No.
1 pick.
The intrigue is immense.
