It is expectation-setting time in the world of college football, and at SEC Media Days, three LSU football players got their chance to chime in.
Whit Weeks, TJ Dottery and TreyDez Green took to the podium during last weeks event, giving a glimpse of the players perspectives on the upcoming season.
Dottery returns to SEC Media Days with a different team.
The linebacker followed head coach Lane Kiffin to LSU from Ole Miss.
He said that beyond coaching, the defensive pedigree LSU has built over its programs history was an important factor in his decision to head to Louisiana.
Dottery also touched on his growing relationship with defensive coordinator Blake Baker, expressing his appreciation for his new coachs excitement.
[Baker] wearing cleats to practice is awesome, and when we make a play, hes almost on the field with us, Dottery said.
Just that energy, I love it, I love it.
Dottery also said that his new teammates have played a major role in what has been a smooth transition to Baton Rouge.
I can attest to the type of people we have on the team, from even the returners, like Whit Weeks and Bo Bordelon guys that know what its like to be at LSU and have been here for a while and them embracing me, Dottery said.
I feel like thats made it the easiest, me just being able to be myself and be the guy I am, and they like me for that.
Weeks took the stage for his second year at SEC Media Days.
The linebacker served as the Tigers defensive captain in 2025 and is expected to be even more of a leader in his senior season.
He displayed his excitement during the press conference, speaking in an uplifting tone and shouting out his teammates in response to questions.
Weeks shared his thoughts on getting the chance to play with Dottery in the defensive backfield this fall, saying the limited time the two have spent working together has made him even more eager to play.
Being hurt during the spring, I kind of got to sit back and watch him and kind of learn how he plays, Weeks said.
Hes a tremendous athlete, loves to hit, and he brings energy every single snap, and thats a guy I want to play with.
Weeks also mentioned that the similar style of play between him and Dottery will give them a unique edge that will compliment both of their performances.
I cant wait for this fall and for camp just to get out there and really play some live action with him, Weeks said.
Its going to be a lot of fun.
Even though Kiffin is an offensive mind, Weeks mentioned the benefits of practicing under his guidance.
He pointed out that the high-pace offense Kiffin employs gives LSUs defense a tough challenge in practice that should pay dividends during the season.
We play four of the fastest offenses in the country, outside of our own offense, Weeks said.
Its tough playing tempo teams, but we get to see that every day at practice.
Weeks said that his time spent with Kiffins brother, new co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Chris Kiffin, has been very fruitful for his development as well.
Ive learnt so much football from [Chris Kiffin], just the technical pieces of the game, Weeks said.
Hes helped me a lot with my footwork and my pass drops.
Weeks said that one of his goals is to return a nasty mentality to the Tigers defensive unit in 2026.
I think weve lacked that in my first three years here, I truly do, and I take that personally, Weeks said.
I want to bring back that nasty defense, [so] when teams turn on the tape, theyre like, Holy cow, weve got to go play these dudes on Saturday.
Green was the lone offensive representative for LSU during this years media days.
The tight end said that his biggest goal is to grow as a leader going into his third year of college football.
I just want to be that guy my teammates can count on, just want to be that outlet for them, Green said.
Whether theyre going through something, or whether they need something, they need some energy or they need a boost or something, I can just be that person in their ear.
As a returner in an offense who saw a lot of turnover over the offseason, Green has been able to work toward that goal.
He said that theres a lot of overlap in relationships between offensive and defensive players, which has helped the new players have a smooth transition, and that all of the newcomers clicked with the returners as soon as they met.
Its about just getting everybody adapted to that Louisiana tradition, Green said.
I feel like weve done that great, and its going to be exciting to watch us this year.
With much of the talk out of the way, attention will be placed on on-field results.
LSU opens the season on Sept.
5 at home against Clemson.
