Heisman Race Heats Up: Week 6 Clashes Featuring Manning, Chambliss, Carr, Smith, Stockton, and Russell

The Heisman Trophy conversation is intensifying as Week 6 of the college football season approaches, with several contenders set to showcase their talents in high-profile games. While some teams are on bye weeks, allowing their Heisman hopefuls to rest, others are gearing up for opportunities to shine.

Three games in the midafternoon slot will require fans to get creative with their viewing plans. Whether it's setting up multiple TVs, heading to a sports bar, using a streaming service that allows multiple games at once, or simply flipping channels, viewers will need to keep up with Arch Manning, Trinidad Chambliss, and CJ Carr, who will all be playing simultaneously in different games.

Arch Manning and Texas vs. Oklahoma

Arch Manning and the top-ranked Texas Longhorns will face the Oklahoma Sooners in the Cotton Bowl at 2:30 CT on ABC. This storied rivalry lacks the usual high stakes, as Oklahoma has stumbled to a 2-2 start and will try to contain Manning. So far, Manning has been solid, completing 63.5% of his passes for 862 yards, seven touchdowns, and three interceptions, while adding 82 rushing yards on 32 carries. He'll face an Oklahoma defense that allows just 122.5 passing yards per game, but that statistic may be misleading given the Sooners' opponents: UTEP, Michigan, New Mexico, and Georgia. The only comparable passing offense they faced was Georgia, but the Bulldogs didn't need to throw much in a blowout.

Trinidad Chambliss and Ole Miss at Vanderbilt

In the same time slot on ESPN, Trinidad Chambliss and the Ole Miss Rebels will visit the Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville. This will be the Rebels' first game since a disappointing road loss to Florida. Vanderbilt may not be as strong as last season with Diego Pavia, but it still presents a challenging SEC road environment for Chambliss to showcase his skills. This season, Chambliss has completed 70.8% of his passes for 1,222 yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions, along with 108 rushing yards and four rushing scores on 28 carries, proving to be a productive leader for Ole Miss.

CJ Carr and Notre Dame vs. Stanford

Also at 2:30 on NBC, Notre Dame's CJ Carr will lead the Fighting Irish against the Stanford Cardinal. Carr has been efficient and mistake-free, completing 71% of his passes for 1,197 yards and 13 touchdowns with just one interception. Stanford's pass defense allows nearly 300 passing yards per game, which could spell a big day for Carr. Despite his impressive numbers, Carr hasn't received much national attention, which is surprising.

Jeremiah Smith and Ohio State vs. Maryland

At 3:15 on Big Ten Network, Jeremiah Smith and the Ohio State Buckeyes will take on Maryland. Smith has been nothing short of spectacular, amassing 823 receiving yards in just five games. If he maintains this pace, he could reach 1,975 receiving yards before the Big Ten Championship Game. Currently, it's hard to envision anyone else winning the Heisman over Smith.

Gunner Stockton and Keelon Russell: Georgia at Alabama

In a primetime matchup at 6:30 CT on ABC, two Heisman hopefuls will go head-to-head as Gunner Stockton and the Georgia Bulldogs visit Keelon Russell and the Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa. Stockton has thrown for 1,049 yards and 13 touchdowns with just one interception, completing 75.5% of his passes. Russell, who just outdueled Mississippi State's Kamario Taylor last week, has completed 71% of his passes for 1,414 yards, 11 touchdowns, and two interceptions, plus 184 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns. This game is a must-watch for Heisman watchers.
