Giants' Jermaine Eluemunor Questionable for Texans Clash: Will He Play?

The New York Giants will travel to Houston to take on the Texans at Reliant Stadium on Sunday afternoon in Week 7, aiming to rebound from a tough loss to the New Orleans Saints and enter their bye week on a positive note. However, the team will be without several key players. Linebacker Tremaine Edmunds has been placed on season-ending injured reserve, while tight end Theo Johnson and safety Jevon Holland have been ruled out. Safety Tyler Nubin is expected to play despite a questionable designation, but the status of right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor remains uncertain.

Eluemunor suffered a calf injury in Week 5 against the Washington Commanders and was quickly ruled out. He was listed as week-to-week, and that proved accurate when he was inactive last Sunday against the Saints. He did not practice on Wednesday but was limited on Thursday and Friday, earning a questionable designation for the second consecutive week. As of Friday afternoon, there was no clear indication whether he would play against the Texans.

Eluemunor did travel with the team to Houston, and his status was not changed on Saturday when the Giants announced injury updates—a positive sign. Head coach John Harbaugh commented on Friday about Eluemunor and Andrew Thomas: “If those guys are able, and it looks like based on today's practice, that they should have a good chance to be ready to go, that will be really important.” Thomas was not given an injury designation. The Giants will officially release their inactives 90 minutes before kickoff.

Key Analysis

If Eluemunor cannot play, the Giants' offensive line depth will be tested. Second-year swing tackle Marcus Mbow, who started last week, is also questionable with a knee issue. Like Eluemunor, he was a non-participant on Wednesday but limited on Thursday and Friday. Should Eluemunor be inactive and Mbow cleared, Mbow would likely start. If both are unavailable, the Giants would turn to rookie J.C. Davis, who has primarily backed up Thomas this season. The only other option is Josh Sills, recently signed off the Colts' practice squad, who has mainly played guard but has limited experience at tackle. The fact that the Giants did not elevate another offensive lineman suggests they expect Eluemunor and/or Mbow to be available.
