Georgia Poised to Take Over No. 1 Spot in AP Poll as Texas Falls; LSU Likely to Drop Out of Top 10

When the Associated Press Top 25 college football poll is unveiled on Sunday, a new team will sit atop the rankings. Texas's four-week reign at No. 1 is set to conclude after the Longhorns suffered a 27-24 defeat to unranked Oklahoma, and No. 2 Georgia is positioned to take over the top spot. The top 10, in particular, is bracing for significant shifts after three ranked teams lost.

Georgia, which garnered the second-most first-place votes a week ago, secured a 20-17 road victory over No. 6 Alabama. The Bulldogs have not held the No. 1 ranking since the first three polls of the 2024 season.

Kentucky's 35-34 overtime triumph over No. 10 LSU is likely to push the Tigers out of the top 10 and return the Wildcats to the Top 25. Kentucky had dropped out of the rankings following a win over South Carolina the previous week.

No. 21 UCLA, off to a 5-0 start for the first time since 2022, is poised to climb, while No. 13 Oregon is expected to fall after the Bruins' 17-15 road win over the Ducks, who now have two losses.

No. 16 Florida, which was ranked No. 8 just two weeks ago, could drop out of the Top 25 entirely. The Gators lost their second consecutive game, 38-19 at home to a South Carolina team that had lost eight straight Southeastern Conference games.

No. 25 Pittsburgh's stay in the poll is likely to last only one week. North Carolina went on the road and defeated the Panthers 21-17, giving second-year coach Bill Belichick his first win over a ranked opponent.

In addition to Kentucky, idle Wisconsin and Northwestern, which defeated Ball State 45-14, are candidates to enter the Top 25.
