Fred Warner Hit with $65,673 in Fines for Two Week 6 Hits

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner has been fined a combined $65,673 for two separate hits on Washington Commanders tight end Chig Okonkwo during their Week 6 Monday night game, which the 49ers won 23-17.

The first fine, $17,911, was for a hit on a defenseless player. Officials initially flagged the play but later picked up the penalty. After reviewing the film, the NFL decided to issue the fine anyway. The second fine, $47,762, was for impermissible use of the helmet, specifically for leading with his head when initiating contact with Okonkwo. That penalty was not called during the game. The amount reflects a second offense under NFL rules.

With these two fines, Warner has now been disciplined four times this season for hits. Following the 49ers' 36-30 win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3, he was fined $23,882 for illegal use of his helmet against Trey McBride and an additional $17,911 for a hip-drop tackle.

If the NFL disciplines Warner two more times for hits on a defenseless player, he will receive a one-game suspension. He could also face a one-game ban if he is called for two more hip-drop tackles this season.

A four-time First Team All-Pro selection, Warner has recorded 58 tackles, 3 forced fumbles, 1 tackle for loss, and 3 passes defended in the 49ers' first six games. At 6-0, San Francisco is one of three undefeated teams in the NFL heading into Week 7.

The 49ers will face the Atlanta Falcons (2-4) on Sunday, while the Minnesota Vikings (5-0) take on the Indianapolis Colts (2-4) and the Kansas City Chiefs (5-0) meet the Seattle Seahawks (3-3).
