Former NFL star LeVeon Bell, who was one of the top running backs in football during his time with the Steelers, was arrested over the weekend.
Bell was arrested Sunday afternoon by the Stark County Sheriffs Office in Canton, Ohio, according to WKYC.
The arrest stems from a warrant out of Michigan, according to the report.
TMZ reports that Bell was arrested for failing to pay child support.
Bells attorney, Thomas Shaffer, told TMZ that Bell is struggling to make child support payments because they are based on his NFL salary.
He reportedly owes more than $50,000 in child support.
Bell was at an autograph signing in Canton, Ohio prior to his arrest, according to TMZ.
The child he owes child support for lives in Michigan, the report states.
Shaffer also told TMZ that Bell used his entire $50,000 NFL pension to pay child support earlier this year.
LeVeon Bell was an All-American running back at Michigan State before being drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
He spent six seasons in Pittsburgh, earning first-team All-Pro honors twice, before signing with the New York Jets.
Despite signing a four-year deal with the Jets, Bell was released midway through his second season.
He then signed with the Kansas City Chiefs where he finished out the 2020 season.
Bell split time between the Ravens and Buccaneers in 2021 in what would be his final NFL season.
Bell rushed for 6,554 yards and 42 touchdowns across his eight NFL seasons.
He added 3,289 receiving yards and nine scores.
His best season came in 2014 when he rushed for 1,361 yards and eight touchdowns for the Steelers.
He also caught 83 passes for 854 yards and three scores that year.
