Former college basketball standout killed in shooting at outdoor tournament near New York’s Central Park

A FORMER college basketball standout star has been killed in a shooting.

The former NCAA star died at an outdoor tournament near Central Park in New York City.

Kinu Rochford, 35, has died after being shot in Harlem, New York, on Friday.

Rochford was shot in the head during the Kingdome Basketball Tournament.

It has been described as a targeted murder by the New York Police Department.

He was fatally wounded at around 10:20pm while watching a game at the event.

It is thought by the police that Rochford was shot after an argument with another individual at the tournament.

Rochford was born and raised in Brooklyn.

He played college basketball at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey.

The forward then went on to play professional basketball across Europe.

This included spells with the Cheshire Phoenix and Plymouth Raiders in the United Kingdom.

A statement has been issued by Fairleigh Dickinson University confirming Rochfords death.

FDU is devastated to hear of the tragic passing of former mens basketball player Kinu Rochford (13), the Knights said on Instagram.

A standout Knight and leader, Rochford built a legacy in Hackensack.

He was 35 years old.
