Former Auburn Tigers continue to find themselves on the move in the NBA, with the latest transaction involving one of the program's most decorated players. Johni Broome has been traded from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Los Angeles Clippers, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
The Sixers dealt Broome and a second-round pick to the Clippers in exchange for cash considerations, per Charania's report. The trade comes shortly after LeBron James chose to sign with Philadelphia for the upcoming season, ending his tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Philadelphia needed to clear a roster spot after releasing Dalen Terry to accommodate James' signing. The 76ers opted to trade Broome rather than waive him, using the move to acquire Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in a separate transaction.
Broome was selected by the 76ers with the 35th overall pick in the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft. However, he struggled to establish a consistent role with the organization during his rookie season. He spent the majority of his first year with Philadelphia's G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats, appearing in 26 games.
In the G League, Broome posted impressive numbers, averaging 21.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists across 32.8 minutes per contest. His rookie campaign was cut short, however, due to a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee.
Broome made only 11 NBA appearances for the 76ers, recording 10 points on 4-for-24 shooting and 16 rebounds in 55 total minutes of action.

Broome now joins a Clippers team in need of frontcourt depth. While he is unlikely to step into a starting role immediately, his G League production and experience with Delaware suggest he could develop into a reliable rotation piece for Los Angeles. The Plant City, Florida native was a dominant force in the paint for the Tigers, becoming just the fourth player in NCAA Division I history to amass 2,500 career points and 1,500 career rebounds. Broome also delivered in critical moments, earning 2025 NCAA South Regional Most Outstanding Player honors as Auburn advanced to its second-ever Final Four.
In postseason play, he averaged 17.3 points and 13.3 rebounds, including a memorable performance after a scary injury in Atlanta that helped the Tigers defeat Michigan State in the Elite Eight to secure a trip to San Antonio.
