Borrowing a tradition long associated with major North American sports leagues such as the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB, FIFA has officially announced that 30 championship rings will be produced for the members of the title-winning team.
The rings will serve as a lasting reminder of footballs greatest achievement and provide players with a personal keepsake they can wear and cherish for the rest of their lives.
The celebration will not stop with the players.
FIFA also revealed that an additional 1,996 commemorative rings will be made available for purchase by supporters, giving fans the opportunity to own a piece of World Cup history.
The number is a nod to the modern era of the tournament and creates a unique collectible tied to the competitions biggest prize.
The move represents another example of FIFA embracing traditions from other sports while looking for new ways to celebrate its champions and engage supporters.
