Ex-MLB Outfielder Daniel Johnson Suffers $90K Memorabilia Heist in Arizona Storage Unit

A former San Francisco Giants outfielder, Daniel Johnson, was the victim of a significant theft when his Arizona storage unit was burglarized, resulting in the loss of more than $90,000 in baseball memorabilia, according to a report by FOX 10 Phoenix.

Two individuals, Daniel Jacob Thompson, 48, and Michael Charles Hummel, 30, were taken into custody on Friday, just one day after Phoenix police released surveillance footage showing them breaking into Johnson's storage unit.

The suspects were apprehended after attempting to sell two pairs of shoes stolen from the unit at a pawn shop. An employee at the shop identified the pair from a police flyer that had been circulating in the area.

The burglary took place on September 27, while Johnson and his fiancée, Alison Wysong, were using the storage facility during the renovation of their Arizona residence.

Clothing made up the majority of the stolen items. Johnson, who has played for the Cleveland Guardians, Baltimore Orioles, Houston Astros, and San Francisco Giants over five MLB seasons, explained that a large portion of the stolen goods was his treasured baseball memorabilia.

"A lot of the other things were replaceable," Johnson told FOX 10. "But when it comes to the baseball apparel and memorabilia that I had for over my 10 years, it really was a gut buster because I knew that unless I played for all those teams, there's no guarantee that I get that stuff back."

He also mentioned that he had intended to donate some of the stolen items to charity.

Authorities believe the burglary was not specifically targeted at Johnson, as the two suspects are accused of stealing from multiple storage units at the facility.

Johnson appeared in eight games for the Astros' major league roster in 2026, recording two hits in 14 at-bats.
