ESPN's College GameDay Heads to Provo for Historic Top-10 Clash Between Notre Dame and BYU

For the second time ever, ESPN's College GameDay will originate from Provo, Utah, as the network announced it will set up shop ahead of the Oct. 17 showdown between No. 3 Notre Dame and No. 8 BYU. The previous visit occurred on Oct. 24, 2009.

Both teams enter the highly anticipated contest unbeaten. BYU improved to 5-0 after a 24-10 victory over Iowa State on Friday night, while Notre Dame moved to 6-0 with a 58-7 rout of Stanford on Saturday.

This matchup marks the first time two top-10 teams have met in Provo. Additionally, Notre Dame's No. 3 ranking makes it the highest-ranked visitor to LaVell Edwards Stadium since No. 1 USC came to town in 2004.

Key Analysis

The game carries significant historical weight, as it pits two of the most successful programs in recent years. Since 2024, BYU has posted a 28-4 record, while Notre Dame stands at 30-4 following its latest win. The Irish also hold a 7-2 advantage in the all-time series, including a 28-20 victory in the 2022 Shamrock Series game in Las Vegas. Notre Dame has played in Provo three times, most recently in 2004 when BYU earned a 20-17 season-opening win.

College GameDay will air from 8-11 a.m. MT (9 a.m.-noon ET / 6-9 a.m. PT) on ESPN, ESPNU, Disney+ and the ESPN App. Rece Davis returns for his 12th season as host, joined by analysts Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee and Nick Saban. The cast also includes insider Pete Thamel, analyst Stanford Steve Coughlin and reporters Jen Lada and Jess Sims for the 2026 college football season.
