Eric Bieniemy's wife reportedly called 911 herself after being shot multiple times, as authorities charged the NFL coach's son on felony charges following a shooting at the family's home.
Mia Bieniemy, the 57-year-old wife of the NFL coach, was rushed to hospital after she was shot during an incident at the family's home on Northpark Drive in Ashburn, Virginia , on Sunday evening.
The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to the property at 7:32 p.m.
ET and found an adult woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Reports state that Mia was shot in the chest and arm and was listed in stable condition as of Monday.
Speaking to WJLA, Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman said the alleged victim was the person who called 911 after being shot "a couple of times" during the incident, allowing emergency responders and deputies to quickly reach the scene.
Although Chapman did not identify Eric or Mia Bieniemy by name during the interview, he confirmed that Elijah Zion Bieniemy had been taken into custody.
She had called in the mother, who we know had called in the shooting, and it was involving the son, so thats where were at right now, he said.
Elijah Zion Bieniemy, the 27-year-old son of Eric and Mia Bieniemy, was arrested at the scene and charged with malicious wounding, using a firearm in the commission of a felony and discharging a firearm inside a dwelling, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.
He is currently being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.
Chapman said he was not aware of any previous incidents at the family's home and added that he had no knowledge of any prior arrests involving Elijah.
Im not aware of any, but were going to conduct that research, Chapman said.
The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
Chapman added: We have to go through an entire investigation to find out exactly where everybody was, what everybody did, what prompted it, how it all transpired, but were investigating right now, he said.
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed the situation after Mondays training camp practice, offering his support for his longtime assistant while choosing not to provide any further details about the incident.
"Our hearts go out to Eric Bieniemy and his family," Reid said.
"Thoughts and prayers are with them.
I can't get into details on it, but things happen sometimes.
He added: Eric will work through it.
He's got a great support group here as does his family as needed.
And we'll just let time take care from there.
Mia is stable, which is a plus.
And so is Eric Jr." "These kinds of things happen, but there's always a blessing in there somewhere," Reid said.
"I know things will work out.
The most important thing is that EB has an opportunity to spend some time with his family and take care of that business.
