Eight free agents have been extended qualifying offers for the 2027 MLB season, as reported by ESPN's Jeff Passan. The group features Seattle Mariners outfielder Randy Arozarena, Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki, Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Brandon Lowe, Baltimore Orioles pitcher Trevor Rogers, San Diego Padres reliever Adrian Morejon, New York Yankees closer David Bednar, Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Jake Bauers, and Minnesota Twins catcher Ryan Jeffers.
Should any player accept the offer, he would return to his 2026 team on a one-year contract worth $23.15 million. Rejection would leave the player as a free agent for 2027. In such cases, the team losing the player would receive draft compensation if he signs with another club. The eight players have until November 17 to make their decisions.
Key Analysis
Historically, most players who receive qualifying offers opt to decline and explore free agency. Last offseason, four of 13 players accepted the one-year deal, while in every other year since 2013, no more than three players have accepted. This trend is likely to continue.
Bednar and Morejon are expected to be among the most sought-after relievers on the market, potentially attracting lucrative multi-year offers from multiple teams. Similarly, Arozarena and Suzuki are two of the top outfield bats available. Former MLB general manager Jim Bowden projects that both outfielders could secure five-year deals worth around $120 million. Consequently, they are also expected to decline their qualifying offers.
As the November 17 deadline approaches, free agency is set to intensify, with these decisions shaping the offseason landscape heading into the final stretch of 2026.
