LONDON — The Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars are set to clash in London, but the game will be missing one of the NFL's most electrifying players. Saquon Barkley, who had a memorable backwards hurdle over a Jaguars cornerback in their previous meeting, will not play due to a hamstring injury that kept him in Philadelphia.
That last encounter occurred nearly two years ago, during the Eagles' Super Bowl-winning season, when Barkley rushed for 2,005 yards and became just the ninth player in NFL history to reach that milestone. The Eagles won that game 28-23 on Nov. 3, 2024, in Philadelphia.
Much has changed for both franchises since then. The Jaguars, then coached by former Eagles coach Doug Pederson, were in the midst of a 4-13 season. Pederson was fired after the season and replaced by Liam Cohen, who led Jacksonville to a 13-4 record last year. The Jaguars enter this game at 3-1.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are navigating a turbulent period. In addition to Barkley, wide receiver DeVonta Smith is also out with an injury. The team also saw right tackle Lane Johnson abruptly retire and center/guard Cam Jurgens traded earlier in the week.
