The Philadelphia Eagles may still be sellers as the Nov. 10 NFL trade deadline approaches, but they are holding onto their most valuable asset. According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport, star running back Saquon Barkley will remain with the team for the rest of the season.
On Monday, Rapoport added that other veterans such as cornerback Riq Woolen and guard Landon Dickerson could be available in trades. The Eagles' 27-10 loss to the Washington Commanders marked their sixth consecutive defeat, dropping them to last place in the NFC East with a 2-6 record, half a game behind the New Orleans Saints for the conference's worst mark.
This season appears lost for Philadelphia, but the team has enough talent to compete in 2027, so a full rebuild is not in the cards. Barkley, for instance, will be a key part of the backfield next year. However, that doesn't rule out outgoing trades entirely.
Key Analysis
Woolen, who signed only a one-year contract, could be flipped for a draft pick rather than lost in free agency for nothing. Dickerson is under contract through 2028, but trading him would alleviate some payroll burden given his $19.5 million annual salary. Rapoport did not mention tight end Dallas Goedert or wide receiver Hollywood Brown, but both are in the same impending free agent situation as Woolen.
Given the Eagles' current trajectory, a trade or two seems inevitable in the coming days. However, fans should not expect a blockbuster deal.
