Dustin May Takes No-Decision as Brewers Fall to Rays in 12-Inning Walk-Off in World Series Game 4

Former Northwest High School standout Dustin May will have to wait for another opportunity to secure his second career World Series victory. The right-hander took the mound as the starting pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 4 of the 2026 MLB World Series against the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday at Tropicana Field, but he did not factor into the decision.

In his first start of this Fall Classic, May surrendered two runs on three hits while striking out three batters across three innings. The Brewers ultimately fell 4-3 in a game that extended into the 12th inning, where Tampa Bay avoided a series sweep. Pinch hitter Ben Williamson delivered a bases-loaded walk-off single, scoring pinch runner Nick Fortes from third base to end the contest.

The best-of-seven series continued with Game 5 on Wednesday in St. Petersburg, Florida, though results were not available by the Wise County Messenger's print deadline. May had previously pitched in relief during Milwaukee's 5-4 victory in Game 2 on October 24 at American Family Field, tossing one scoreless inning and allowing just one hit.

Over five postseason appearances spanning 11 innings, May holds a 0-0 record with a 5.73 earned run average. He has allowed seven runs on 11 hits, striking out eight and walking two.

Key Analysis

May, along with relief pitcher JoJo Romero, was acquired by the Brewers from the St. Louis Cardinals at the 2026 MLB Trade Deadline on August 3. In exchange, Milwaukee sent outfield prospects Alexander Frias and Josiah Ragsdale to St. Louis. The deal marked the second time May was traded at the deadline; in 2025, he was moved from the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Boston Red Sox for outfielders James Tibbs III and Zach Ehrhard.

During the 2026 regular season, split between the Brewers and Cardinals, May posted a 7-9 record with a 4.70 ERA, 144 strikeouts, and 50 walks, allowing 79 runs on 142 hits. The right-hander was originally selected by the Dodgers in the third round (101st overall) of the 2016 MLB Draft after graduating from Northwest High School. In 2020, he earned a World Series ring with Los Angeles at Globe Life Field in Arlington, allowing three runs on five hits over three innings with three strikeouts in two games as the Dodgers defeated the Rays 4-2 in the series.
