Duke Basketball Shows Interest in Five-Star Point Guard Josiah Rose

Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer and his staff have set their sights on another top-tier prospect in the 2028 class: five-star point guard Josiah Rose. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound lefty from Faith Family Academy in Texas is currently not on Duke's official wishlist, but recent developments suggest a growing mutual interest between the talented junior and the Blue Devils.

On Monday, 247Sports' Dushawn London reported on social media that Duke has shown "new interest" in Rose's recruitment. The Devils Den reposted one of Rose's quotes to London: "If you go to Duke, you're going to develop and fight..." Rose, who boasts a reported 6-foot-9 wingspan and an advanced ability to create scoring opportunities, is ranked No. 7 overall, No. 1 among point guards, and No. 1 in Texas on the 247Sports 2028 Composite. He has climbed 24 spots in the overall rankings since June.

Rose's offer list has grown to approximately two dozen schools. According to London, he recently took unofficial visits to Baylor, LSU, Texas, and Texas A&M. Meanwhile, Duke has extended offers to only two 2028 prospects: five-star center Yann Kamagate from St. Francis High School in California and five-star forward Colton Hiller from Coatesville Area High School in Pennsylvania. Neither is a point guard, and both are still considering reclassifying to 2027.

Key Analysis

Recent buzz from scouts and national recruiting analysts suggests Rose could challenge for the No. 1 ranking in the 2028 class. Alec Kichian, an international scout for nbadraftpoint, posted this month that Rose is "the perfect modern guard prospect." Kichian praised Rose's elite scoring, playmaking, defensive skills, and athleticism, calling him "incredibly cerebral" and "my No. 1 guy right now." With Kamagate and Hiller currently ranked No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, on the 247Sports 2028 Composite, their potential reclassification to 2027 could clear the path for Rose to ascend to the top spot.

Duke's recruiting prowess under Scheyer is well-documented. In each of his first five cycles as head coach, the Blue Devils have secured a top-two recruiting class nationally. Landing a player of Rose's caliber would further cement Scheyer's reputation as an elite recruiter.
