Few people are having a worse month than Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby.
Many believed the high-profile transfer QB was set for a monster season with the Red Raiders, one which wouldve solidified him as a first-round prospect for the 2027 NFL draft.
But after admitting to having a gambling addiction and placing bets on the Indiana Hoosier while he was a member of the team, Sorsby lost his college eligibility but hoped to enter the NFL supplemental draft next month.
The only problem is the NFL isnt holding a supplemental draft this year, meaning Sorsby will have to wait until next April to join the NFL.
To add insult to injury, the Canadian Football League announced on Friday that Sorsby isnt allowed to play in that league either.
Facing the prospect of sitting out for a year before entering the 2027 draft, Sorsby got a harsh reality check from draft expert Todd McShay of The Ringer.
I do have a PSA for Brendan Sorsby: take your punishment, McShay said.
The NFL made it perfectly clear in its letter that went public in the last 24 hours, you can argue the inconsistency with their rules, but it doesnt matter.
The league has spoken take your medicine.
You made the mistake.
It was your actions that got you in this spot.
It doesnt matter how strong a legal case you think you have against the NFL, the league is making an example of you.
The only option Sorsby seemingly has on the table to play next season is with the Untied Football League.
However, being a spring league, the UFL doesnt begin playing until the end of March.
If Sorsby decided to play in the UFL, he would risk injury and possibly sabotaging whatever draft stock he currently has, which is why McShay believes the best thing the 22-year-old QB can do right now is keep his head down and stay out of trouble.
Your cleanest path to the NFL, Brendan, is to deal with your gambling addiction, prepare yourself for next Aprils draft, stay out of trouble, stay out of headlines, get in the best shape of your life, continue to master your craft, McShay continued.
Whatever route you decide to take, get with someone who can help you.
Its time to be a grown man.
Grown men take accountability.
Show contrition, do some work on yourself, actually reflect.
The next time you make headlines, speak for yourself.
Make it your voice.
Show an understanding of what you did wrong thats what the adults at the table want to see.
