Dolphins Audition Justin Tucker, Sign Zane Gonzalez as Riley Patterson's Struggles Mount

Miami's kicking situation has become a focal point after the team reportedly brought in multiple veterans for tryouts on Tuesday. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Dolphins are signing Zane Gonzalez to their practice squad following a session that also included seven-time Pro Bowler Justin Tucker.

The development puts incumbent kicker Riley Patterson on notice. Patterson, 27, is in his second season with Miami. After connecting on 27 of 29 field-goal attempts last season, he has already missed two field goals and an extra point through the first five games of 2026.

His most recent miss came in Week 5, when he failed on an extra-point attempt with 45 seconds left in a 31-24 home loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Gonzalez, 31, has kicked for five NFL teams since entering the league in 2017. Last season with the Atlanta Falcons, he converted 19 of 22 field goals and 17 of 18 PATs in nine games.

Key Analysis

Tucker, 36, spent 13 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens and owns the second-highest field-goal success rate in NFL history at 89.1%. The Super Bowl XLVII champion has not played since the league suspended him for 10 games in 2025 following allegations of inappropriate behavior during massage sessions.

The Dolphins' decision to audition Tucker and sign Gonzalez underscores the urgency for a team still seeking its first victory of the season.
