The Los Angeles Dodgers are set to conclude their 2026 regular season with a three-game set against the rival San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park. With their postseason fate already decided, the primary objectives for the Dodgers are to keep players sharp and evaluate candidates for the postseason roster.
Several Dodgers are returning from injuries and need to regain their timing at the plate and in the field. Additionally, a few roster spots are still up for competition, adding significance to the series. "All we care about is playing good this weekend, these three games, and take that in," first baseman Freddie Freeman said. "Doesn't matter who we're playing or what we've done against those teams. It's all out the window come [next] Saturday. It's game on there. [We need to] play good baseball so we can have some positive things going into the off week."
Pitching Matchup: Skubal vs. Marte
Left-hander Tarik Skubal, slated to be the Dodgers' No. 2 starter behind Yoshinobu Yamamoto in the postseason, will make his final regular-season start on Friday night. Skubal struggled in his last outing against the Giants, surrendering four runs on eight hits with three strikeouts over five innings—his worst performance since joining the Dodgers. He will look to rebound in his final tune-up before October. The Dodgers are counting on Skubal and the rotation to carry them through the playoffs, mirroring last year's success.
Opposing Skubal will be right-hander Yunior Marte, who also had a rough outing in last weekend's matchup, allowing six runs on eight hits over 4.2 innings with two strikeouts. Since his MLB debut on Aug. 29, Marte has posted a 4.66 ERA across 19.1 innings.
