Dodgers Capitalize on Brewers' Fielding Mistakes to Regain Lead in Chaotic Third

The Los Angeles Dodgers moved ahead 2-1 against the Milwaukee Brewers in the top of the third inning of Game 2 of the National League Championship Series, capitalizing on a pair of defensive miscues by the home side.

Tommy Edman opened the inning with a base hit.

Mookie Betts then hit a ground ball to shortstop that had double-play potential, but the ball glanced off the heel of Cooper Pratt's glove and landed in shallow left field, allowing both runners to reach safely.

Freddie Freeman nearly drove them both in when he crushed a low changeup from Brewers starter Logan Henderson at 106.1 mph over right fielder Sal Frelick's head, appearing destined for extra bases. However, Frelick, a 2024 Gold Glove Award winner, made a spectacular leaping catch, reaching behind him to snag the line drive for an out.

Edman tagged up and advanced to third, a move that would soon prove pivotal.

With Betts on first and second base unoccupied, he became a stolen-base threat with one out.

Henderson tried to pick off the eight-time All-Star but spiked the ball into the ground in front of first baseman Jake Bauers.

The ball rolled far into foul territory, giving Edman ample time to score the go-ahead run from third.
