On Wednesday evening, the Miami Heat continued their preseason schedule with a home matchup against the Brooklyn Nets. The game served as the unofficial home debut for Giannis Antetokounmpo, whom the Heat acquired from the Milwaukee Bucks during the offseason.
Following the game, Antetokounmpo received lofty praise from his new teammate, Heat point guard Davion Mitchell. In comments relayed by The HEAT Realm on X (formerly Twitter) via Brendan Tobin, Mitchell said, "For the most part He's the greatest player to play the game so he's really going to figure it out he's a really good passer so he's going to find you on the open cuts because people are trying to build the wall sometimes you don't even know if you're open and he just ends up finding you being open he just needs to 2 dribbles and he's dunking the ball."
While Mitchell's claim that Antetokounmpo is the greatest player ever is likely to draw disagreement from many, the two-time MVP is aiming to demonstrate he remains among the league's elite after injuries caused him to miss a significant portion of his final season with Milwaukee.
Meanwhile, Heat president Pat Riley followed through on his promise to make major changes this summer by trading for the disgruntled star. Antetokounmpo will look to help Miami rebound from a stretch in which the team has won just one playoff game over the past three years.
As for Mitchell, he has developed into a reliable NBA point guard, though questions persist about whether he is better suited for a reserve role, particularly given the Heat's need for shot creation on the perimeter.
In any case, Miami will open its new season on October 21 at home against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
