New Washington Huskies basketball assistant coach DeAndre Haynes will receive $300,000 in base salary per year over his two-year deal with the school, according to his contract released by the school this week.
Haynes, a Kent State graduate and longtime college basketball coach at Marquette, Maryland, and Michigan, was at one point the seventh-highest compensated employee at Marquette and fourth-highest paid athletic department employee for the Big East Conference school.
A story from Paint Touches in May 2024 noted that Haynes made $420,486 in 2023, which means his impact for coach Shaka Smart was worth a high-level investment, and it proved fruitful on the court with a trio of NCAA Tournament appearances, highlighted by a Sweet 16 run in 2024.
New Washington Huskies men's basketball assistant coach DeAndre Haynes will make $300,000 in base salary per year over his two-year contract.
Deal runs until March 31, 2028.
Lars Hanson (@LarsHanson) July 17, 2026 Haynes is regarded as a high-level developer for third-year coach Danny Sprinkle, who has served as an assistant at three different schools that reached the NCAA Tournament after being a prolific college guard in his own right.
The Kent State all-time record holder for career assists (625), steals (229), and minutes (4,070) joins associate head coach Andy Hill and two other assistants, Quincy Pondexter and Abdul Gaddy, on Sprinkle's staff, with Haynes bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to Montlake.
During his first two seasons at UW, the program has failed to reach the NCAA Tournament both years and opted not to accept an automatic bid to the College Basketball Crown postseason tournament in Las Vegas this past spring.
Haynes' contract with the Huskies ends March 31, 2028, a standard two-year agreement that began May 28.
UW formally announced the hire on June 19.
