Colts pre-training camp 53-man roster prediction: Linebackers

With training camp drawing closer for the Indianapolis Colts , we typically put together a 53-man roster prediction based on what we learned during offseason programs.

We will still be doing that, but the format will be different.

Rather than cramming every position group into one article, we'll devote an entire article to one unit before compiling our predictions at the end.

Up next are the linebackers.

Linebackers on the Colts roster CJ Allen Bryce Boettcher Akeem Davis-Gaither Jaylon Carlies Austin Ajiake West Weeks Tahj Chambers Devin Veresuk Roster locks: CJ Allen, Bryce Boettcher, Akeem Davis-Gaither Allen and Boettcher are both 2026 draft picks, with Allen expected to start as a rookie.

Davis-Gaither was signed in free agency to a one-year deal that the Colts could easily get out of.

That said, this room is so inexperienced overall that I think having Davis-Gaither's experience is a near must.

Both he and Boettcher are in the mix for starting snaps.

How many linebackers will the Colts' roster? Many teams around the NFL will keep five, which would mean two roster spots are up for grabs for the Colts.

But last year, in Lou Anarumo's first as defensive coordinator, the team kept only four.

Also, it's important to keep in mind that this is typically a special-teams-heavy position, so having a player or two or can contribute in that phase of the game will be important.

Predicting the Colts' 53-man roster at linebackers before training camp CJ Allen, Bryce Boettcher, Akeem Davis-Gaither, Austin Ajiake I'm going with four players at this position.

I don't know that this unit is deep enough to justify carrying a fifth linebacker.

Safety Hunter Wohler could see some linebacker-like snaps in certain packages as well.

You'll also notice that Jaylon Carlies, who did see some opportunities with the starters during offseason programs, was left off this prediction.

Ultimately, the decision came down to special teams.

Ajiake has a path to contributing weekly, and unless Carlies can earn the starting role, I think Ajiake can make a greater impact in that phase.

Last season, he was third on the team in special teams snaps and tied for first in total tackles.
