Colts' Mo Alie-Cox Draws Trade Interest as Indianapolis Embarks on Roster Overhaul

Following a disappointing 2-6 beginning to the season, the Indianapolis Colts are anticipated to aggressively shed veteran assets, and tight end Mo Alie-Cox has emerged as a potential trade target. According to Albert Breer of SI.com, the Cleveland Browns, who have gotten off to a strong start, are specifically seeking a tight end who excels in run blocking, and Alie-Cox fits that profile.

Alie-Cox, 33, took an unconventional path to the NFL, transitioning to football as a tight end after playing college basketball at VCU. He originally joined the Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2017 and bounced on and off the roster before securing a one-year extension in 2019. He later re-signed as a restricted free agent in 2021 on a deal worth approximately $3.5 million, then agreed to a three-year, $18 million contract in 2024. Most recently, the Colts re-signed him to a one-year deal for the 2026 season.

In 2026, Alie-Cox has appeared in four games for Indianapolis, recording four receptions for 31 yards and a touchdown. His role has been limited, but his skill set as a blocker could appeal to teams looking to bolster their run game.

The Colts have already traded guard Quenton Nelson and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, and running back Jonathan Taylor and wide receiver Josh Downs are among the other prominent names expected to be moved as the team continues its fire sale. Further updates on the Colts' trade activity will be provided as more information becomes available.
