The summer lull is about to come to an end.
The sports slow season for news, which typically lasts for most of May and June, ends with college football power conference (Big 12, ACC, SEC and Big Ten) media days.
Now that doesn't mean it's football season just yet; but it is football talking season.
Media Days or "Kickoff" events are the perfect time to talk about absolutely anything and everything, because the season is still at least a month away, and everybody is 0-0.
In July, every position group "could be the best in the conference, if not the league" as the Media Day cliche goes.
These events are also the perfect time to discuss the NFL Draft stock of the players involved.
And with every power conference having their own tv network these days, you can watch and stream along at home.
Here's the schedule so you know when to tune in.
Power Conference Media Days Big 12: July 78 at The Star in Frisco in Texas Both days will be broadcast live on ESPNU from 10 a.m.
to 3 p.m.
CT, simulcasted on Big 12 Studios.
By this time, the Brendan Sorsby situation will have already been talked to death.
Actually, even bringing it up now is kind of beating a dead horse, so we'll give you some new players to focus on.
The top draft prospects scheduled to appear are Oklahoma State QB Drew Mestemaker and Texas Tech DL A.J.
Holmes Jr.
Of course, the true star attraction will be Coach Prime, and Deion Sanders knows that his Colorado Buffaloes, now in year four of his regime, have to get it done in 2026.
Yeah, we gotta win, Sanders said in an exclusive with Ratings.org.
Thats it, simple as that.
ACC (ACC Kickoff): July 1517 at the Hilton Charlotte Uptown in North Carolina ACC Network will provide live coverage each day beginning at 9 a.m.
ET.
Charlotte is the perfect city for hosting this because it's the type of place to go when you really want to stay at the convention center the whole time, and be totally engrossed in whatever conference it is that you're attending.
Yes, if you just want to go to ACC Kickoff, and not do anything else the whole time you are there...Charlotte works just fine.
Quarterback Darian Mensah, who transferred within the conference from Duke, is the league's top NFL Draft prospect, and he'll be there.
The Hurricanes are loaded with future NFL talent, but none of the other guys in that top 100 overall prospect range will be at this event.
Other top tier draft prospects appearing at ACC kickoff include NC State QB CJ Bailey, Clemson DL Will Heldt, Louisville EDGE Clev Lubin and SMU OL PJ Williams.
SEC (SEC Kickoff): July 2023 at the JW Marriott and Tampa Marriott Water Street in Florida As they always like to say, "it just means more." And because it has so much more added meaning, we'll just have to wait longer to know the list of players appearing and the broadcast information.
Neither one has been announced yet.
Big Ten Media Days: July 2830 at the Hilton Chicago in Illinois "Last but not least" and "saving the best for last" is the Big Ten.
This event has had its share of interesting bizarre storylines over the years, with 2014 often coming to mind first.
That was the year in which the top storyline was then Nebraska Coach Bo Pelini fielding a question about his cat during his time up on stage.
In terms of players with high draft stock appearing at this event, we covered that previously, at this link and again at this link.
