Colin Cowherd defends fired NBA broadcaster: ‘Should hire an attorney’

Sports media personality Colin Cowherd was surprised to learn that the Spurs fired TV play-by-play announcer Jacob Tobey for allegedly cheating on his girlfriend.

News broke Thursday that Tobey was fired after posts appeared on his Instagram story earlier this week accusing him of cheating.

Cowherd reacted to the news during his show Thursday.

I learned something new today, that you can get fired in America for cheating on your girlfriend, Cowherd said.

I had no idea that was legal.

That literally happened.

Its a big story.

You can get fired in America for cheating on your not your wife a girlfriend." Tobey was allegedly cheating on his girlfriend with Loren Waters, the sister of Spurs player Lindy Waters.

One of Tobeys Instagram stories included the caption: This is my girlfriend of six years.

But I cheated on her with Loren Waters.

..

So feel free to continue following me if you really think Im a good guy because Im not.

:).

Another Instagram story showed pictures of Tobey and Waters with the caption: Me and the new girl LorenKWaters :).

Even if the posts were true and Tobey did indeed cheat, Cowherd does not believe Tobey should have been fired.

It feels like he should hire an attorney, Cowherd said.

That is a crazy story.

I mean, whatever.

Tobey was hired as the TV play-by-play announcer for the Spurs ahead of the 2024-25 season.

Prior to that, he worked as a weekend sports anchor in Denver and as a play-by-play announcer for Fox Sports and the Pac-12 Network.

The Massachusetts native graduated from Suffolk University in 2018.
