Although Deion, affectionately known as Coach Prime, no longer coaches Shedeur, their relationship remains strong. The two spent time together at the conclusion of the second day of camp in Berea, Ohio, on July 30, 2026.
Shedeur's College Legacy
Shedeur played under his father at Colorado during the 2023 and 2024 seasons, amassing 7,364 passing yards and 64 touchdowns. His 71.8% completion rate over those two years stands as the highest in FBS history. In 2024, he earned the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year honor.
Following his father from Jackson State to Colorado in 2023, Shedeur became a key figure in the Buffaloes' resurgence. Colorado, which had a dismal 1-11 record in 2022, hired Deion Sanders despite his lack of FBS coaching experience, bringing both father and son to Boulder.
With Shedeur at the helm, Colorado posted a 13-12 record. After the 2024 season, he declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, where he was selected in the fifth round by the Cleveland Browns after an unexpected slide.
Rookie Year and Future Prospects
In his rookie campaign with the Browns, Shedeur appeared in eight games, starting seven and compiling a 3-4 record. He threw for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns, and ten interceptions. With no clear starter for the 2026 season, Shedeur is expected to compete for the starting quarterback position.
Meanwhile, Colorado struggled without him in 2025, finishing 3-9, their worst record under Coach Prime. The team rotated through three quarterbacks: Kaidon Salter, Ryan Staub, and Julian Lewis. Salter, who began as the starter, proved inconsistent and now plays for the BC Lions in the CFL. Staub started only one game before transferring to Tennessee, while Lewis remains on the roster.
The bond between Deion and Shedeur remains a focal point, as the elder Sanders continues to support his son's professional journey, proving that some relationships transcend the game.
