Cincinnati Bearcats Duo Named to Outland Trophy Watchlist for 2026

The University of Cincinnati football program received a significant preseason accolade as two of its offensive linemen were selected for the Outland Trophy Watchlist ahead of the 2026 campaign. Left guard Evan Tengesdahl and left tackle Joe Cotton both earned a place on the prestigious list, which honors the nation's top interior offensive lineman.

Cincinnati stands among just 16 schools nationwide to have multiple representatives on the watchlist, underscoring the strength of their offensive line unit. Tengesdahl, who is considered the Bearcats' top player entering the season, posted an impressive 82.8 overall grade from Pro Football Focus, the highest among all guards in the country. His stellar performance also earned him third-team AP All-America honors.

Cotton was equally vital to the offensive line's success, starting all 13 games at left tackle last season. He logged 711 snaps and recorded a solid 69 overall grade from Pro Football Focus. Together, Tengesdahl and Cotton are expected to anchor the left side of the line, forming the backbone of the Bearcats' offensive attack. Taran Tyo is slated to handle center duties, while the right-side starting positions remain open for competition.

Key Analysis

Head coach Scott Satterfield expressed confidence in his offensive line's experience and leadership, noting that many key contributors from last season are returning. He also highlighted the addition of defensive coordinator Nate Woody, who previously worked with Satterfield at Appalachian State and spent six years at Army. The Outland Trophy, established in 1946 by Dr. John Outland, is the third-oldest major award in college football and will celebrate its 81st season.

Semifinalists for the 2026 Outland Trophy will be announced on Nov. 18, followed by the finalist selection on Nov. 24. The winner will be revealed on ESPN in December, with the official trophy presentation scheduled for Jan. 27, 2027, in Omaha, Neb. Cincinnati's inclusion on the watchlist signals high expectations for the offensive line as the Bearcats prepare for their Big 12 schedule.
