Christian Reeves Impresses as Kansas Basketball Dominates Pittsburg State

LAWRENCE — Kansas basketball coach Bill Self witnessed a standout performance from fifth-year center Christian Reeves in the Jayhawks' 80-62 exhibition victory over Pittsburg State on Friday at home.

Self, speaking postgame on the Jayhawk Sports Network, pointed out several areas for improvement but singled out Reeves for his exceptional play. Reeves finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocks in just over 10 minutes of action.

The limited playing time was by design, as Reeves spent the offseason recovering from an injury, and Self saw no need to reinsert him into the game. "It was fun to get back out there," Reeves said on ESPN+. "Obviously, I had a long road of recovery this summer, so it's just fun to get back out there with the guys, and I enjoyed it."

Reeves, who transferred from College of Charleston during the offseason, reported that his shoulder is feeling good and credited the staff for helping him regain health. He also noted that fans caught a glimpse of the team's depth, size, speed, and athleticism.

For Reeves, playing inside Allen Fieldhouse as a Jayhawk was a special moment. If he can carry this level of performance into the next two exhibition games and the regular season, Kansas will gain a formidable inside presence at 7-foot-2 and 260 pounds, offering greater lineup versatility.

However, the upcoming exhibitions will present tougher challenges: a matchup against Louisville on Oct. 21 at home and a clash with Duke on Oct. 25 at home.

Key Analysis

Reeves' efficient outing in limited minutes underscores his potential to be a difference-maker for Kansas this season. His size and skill set provide the Jayhawks with a commanding interior force and the flexibility to adapt their lineup. If he stays healthy, Reeves could be a key contributor in the regular season.
